we cREATED cura to support Healthier OCEANS

Growing up on the West Coast of Canada, the ocean acted as our backyard! At an early age, we understood it’s strengths and it’s mysteries. The big blue sea and the amazing creatures that live within it have always been an inspiration.

Rooting from this inspiration, Cura was created to help protect the ocean and the marine life it supports. It is hard to believe something so enormous and beautiful can begin to truly suffer. We asked ourselves, how can WE create a solution to reduce the massive amount of pollution impeding the Earth’s oceans? How can WE alleviate the oceans deterioration?

Our actions as human beings on this planet have a large impact. It is up to us, the consumers, to correct our mistakes.

This leads to Cura’s first mission: decrease the consumption of disposable cups by offering a re-usable exchange program to reduce the amount of waste.

Connor Duesterwald

Co-Founder

Graduating from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Engineering degree Connor has been experienced a variety of industries. Growing up with a background in mechanical wrenching he made an attempt to diversify his skill set. Previous roles include: Geotechnical Engineering intern, Base Development intern with the Department of Defence and an Engineer/Fabricator with eatART foundation developing a five meter tall four-legged wearable walking machine. Afterwards, Connor transitioned into the automotive industry holding positions at Tesla and currently General Motors in the Active Safety and Autonomous space.

Brooke Marie Fiddick

Co-founder

Brooke Marie has a background in fashion design, event management and social media strategy. Through studying Costume Design at Capilano University and Fashion Design at Ryerson University a strong skill set in garment construction was obtained. By advancing her skills in Visual Merchandising and holding multiple retail managerial roles, Brooke Marie has developed strong skills in customer behavior and communication. In addition, customer empathy and client relation skills were developed through multiple Design Assistant roles and Event Coordinator positions. Her passion for design and sustainability led to a role as a Community Manager at Kanekta where she develops social media strategy and assists in content marketing.
